Chelsea Winger Mudryk Facing Up To Four-Year Doping Ban
Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk was charged by the FA for anti-doping violations on Wednesday and could now face up to a four-year ban.
This news comes following his provisional suspension in December when he tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance known as meldonium.
The four-year ban is the maximum ban that the FA could impose for violation of its anti-doping policies. Bans could be as short as a month, depending on the circumstances.
“We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations,” the FA said in a statement. “As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time”.
Despite maintaining that he has never knowingly taken any banned substances, Mudryk has not featured for the club since this initial suspension. This includes missing out on the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where Chelsea got off to a flying start with a 2-0 victory over LAFC in their opening match of the tournament.
This banned substance charge is the latest chapter in the incredibly disappointing story of Mudryk as a Chelsea player. After joining the club for £62 million ($78.9m) in January 2023, many were predicting that the now 24-year-old Ukrainian would become one of the best attackers in the world thanks to his athleticism, dribbling ability, and attacking prowess.
However, he has struggled to adapt since making the move to the Premier League, scoring just 10 goals in 73 appearances and struggling to consistently start games for the club.
