Chad Henne Retires Following Chiefs 2023 SB Victory
Last year it was Andrew Whitworth who went out on top and retired as a Super Bowl champion. This year it’s the Chiefs’ backup quarterback, Chad Henne. Following the victory in Super Bowl LVII, Henne is calling it quits and retiring a winner. Henne made his announcement via Instagram.
“Calling it a career,” he wrote. “Capping it off with @budlight and another ring!”
Henne, 37, retires after winning his second ring with the Chiefs. Of course, Henne played a somewhat crucial role in helping the Chiefs advance. In the game against Jacksonville in the Divisional round when Patrick Mahomes originally injured his ankle, Henne went 5 for 7 on passes for 23 yards. That drive helped Kansas City advance to the AFC Title Game. Henne spent the past four years as Mahomes’ backup with the Chiefs.
It’s going to go down as a hell of a career for the Wyomissing, PA native. Henne played his college ball at the University of Michigan and was eventually taken in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by Miami. In totality, Henne calls it a career with 13,290 yards, 60 touchdowns, and 63 interceptions. Don’t forget about those two Super Bowl rings.
The Chiefs will be tasked with finding a new backup quarterback this offseason. Will Kansas City find that guy in the draft or will they pursue another veteran option like they did with Chad Henne? As long as Andy Reid and or Patrick Mahomes doesn’t follow Henne into retirement, this Chiefs Super Bowl window is totally wide open.
