Don’t listen to Jarrod Prosser. The Celtics DID NOT have a good offseason and the Danilo Gallinari news only further proves that point. Boston enters the season at roughly the same point they did a year ago. Talented young core with not enough shooting. I don’t know how the Celtics will replace Gallo, but it sure as hell can’t be with Carmelo Anthony.
Jayson Tatum is a moron for even suggesting the Celtics should bring Carmelo in. Carmelo should flat out retire because he has nothing left. However, if you somehow want to find a home for Melo, the Celtics are probably the single worst fit for him imaginable.
Signing Carmelo doesn’t make a lick of sense. I only need one argument on my side. The Celtics DNA is built on an amazing defense that switches everything. There is no room for turnstiles. Have you seen Carmelo play defense because it makes me vomit.
You can’t sell me that the Celtics are so good because of this great defense and then turn around and sign Carmelo. Any person rooting for that just isn’t intelligent. Luckily, it sounds like we may not have to worry about it. Things can obviously change but it sounds like the Celtics currently have no interest in bringing in Carmelo.
“The Carmelo Anthony buzz was a hot topic this week after the rumors started swirling about the Celtics’ interest in him last week. However, multiple league sources tell MassLive that the Celtics are not expected to have interest in bringing in the veteran for a signing ahead of training camp. That’s not to say the team is done shaping the roster ahead of the preseason but Anthony isn’t a priority at this point at names that could be brought in. Boston likes a lot of their internal replacement options from what I’ve heard and want to give those names the first crack at minutes.”
I know what you’re thinking. Okay, so tell me who the Celtics should sign instead of Anthony? The answer should be no one.
Sam Hauser or Mfiondu Kabengele should get the roster spot. Both come with size and can shoot from distance. Frankly, they’re both probably better than old as dirt Gallinari anyway. If the internal options fail, someone is going to become available on the buyout market. Gallo’s $3.2 million designated player exception isn’t going away.
Just say no to Carmelo Anthony. That’s it. Tell him to go kick rocks. Tell him to never show his ugly face at TD Garden unless it’s for another team. It’s not an option. It should never be an option.
