CC Sabathia is heading into the final season of his playing career. Sabathia, 38, will pitch in his 19th MLB season in 2019 and he’s hoping to cap it off with one last championship. Sabathia will not focus solely on baseball during his swansong season. CC and ESPN have come to terms on an agreement that will allow him to serve as a baseball analyst for them.

Sabathia had the following statement:

“As I begin to look toward the future, I’m excited to have this opportunity with ESPN,” Sabathia said in a statement. “With that said, my singular focus is on winning another World Series Championship for Yankees fans and the city of New York.”

Sabathia will make appearances on SportsCenter and Baseball Tonight. He is also scheduled to become a guest host on ESPN Radio New York’s Humpty & Canty show. I’m not entirely sure how this will work. Maybe after day games he hops on? Who knows the logistics. I think this will end up being a good hire by ESPN but who knows. ANYTHING is better than that robot John Farrell who is among the biggest idiots on the planet.

I have to be honest, I need to know how Baseball Tonight is still a show. In terms of resources poured into sports, almost zero go into baseball at ESPN. Every ounce of content at ESPN focuses on basketball. I wonder how much ESPN is paying him because getting a gig at the YES Network seems like a much better alternative for Sabathia.

Sabathia is one of the iron men in the sport. He is 4 wins away from 250 for his career. In this day in age where starters are throwing less and less innings, that’s an incredible accomplishment. Sabathia pitched to a 3.65 ERA over 153 innings in 2018.
