Casey Thompson 2023 NFL Draft Profile
Casey Thompson peaked in the 2020 Alamo Bowl Game. I could end the post here cause it’s kinda true. As the 2023 NFL Draft nears, is there any reason to believe Thompson could regain that magical form and make an impact at the next level? Let’s go over what you need to know.
I included a bunch on Thompson during the stock report notes this year. Some good. Some bad. Make sure to peep those links for the in season action on Thompson.
The sad part is the Thompson may be further along had he not been pushed out the door for Quinn Ewers. A move that was always going to happen but it felt as though Thomspon could work his way into a draftable range had Nebraska not totally gone down the toilet with Scott Frost.
The accuracy is better than he gets credit for. Far from perfect but back to back seasons of 63% probably tells a lot of the story. Didn’t show it much this year but Thompson can move. Not an elite athlete but has some mobility.
Is it fair to call Thompson the poorest of poor man versions of Kyler Murray? Thompson is undersized at 6-foot-1 but doesn’t have the pure horse power. Not bad arm strength but not freaky either.
Thompson is probably undraftable but I don’t think it’s totally impossible he becomes the next Tyler Huntley. He’s a scrappy guy that has some backyard football in him. If you’re looking at the undrafted free agent quarterback list at the end of the draft, you can do worse for your preseason roster.
