Carter Hart Taking Indefinite Leave Of Absence Away From Flyers

It sounds like we have seen the last of Carter Hart this year. Maybe even in a Flyers sweater. Frankly, I’m not sure what’s happening. It has been announced that the Flyers’ primary netminder is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team.

“Carter Hart has requested and been granted an indefinite leave of absence citing personal reasons. The club will have no further comment at this time.”

Hart, 25, will become a restricted free agent at the end of this season. Who knows how this will affect his future in Philly? The former second round pick in 2016 has a 12-9-3 record on the season. He’s also posted .906 save percentage and 2.80 goals against average.

This is pure speculation. Maybe I shouldn’t even go here but I need to hit 300 words somehow and we have zero clarity what’s going on. There was a report a while ago about how there was some controversy that went down at World Juniors that held up his trade market. Maybe something resurfaced there. That could be totally wrong. Just worth pointing out.

Just a brutal turn of events for the Flyers in the last few weeks. First, it was the Cutter Gauthier disaster. now this. Time will tell if this affects the trade deadline plans for Danny Briere and Keith Jones.

Samuel Ersson will likely take over as the starting goalie. Ersson has done a nice job when called up recording a record of 12-6-3 with a .909 save percentage. Cal Petersen was also called up from the AHL in a corresponding move where Owen Tippett went on IR.

The Flyers would make the playoffs if the season ended today. They’re likely going to have finish out the rest of the season without Hart. Can they still make the playoffs without him?
