To start this offseason, the Washington Commanders addressed their need at quarterback by trading for Carson Wentz. This will be Wentz’s third team in the last three seasons. However, despite that, he has been able to get a solid grasp of the Commander’s offense in a short period of time. Head coach Ron Rivera has been impressed by Wentz in that aspect.
“When you listen to him in the huddle, you listen to him talk to his teammates about certain aspects of the play — you know he gets it,” Rivera said, via NBCSportsWashington.com. “And seeing him getting his teammates lined up and communicating is, I think, a real positive for us. I know it gives me confidence. But when he’s in the huddle calling plays the way he does, I know his teammates can feel the confidence.”

Wentz’s ability to show an understanding of the Commander’s offense is a great sign. Playing in three systems in three years can be a challenge. It looks like he has been able to overcome that issue. Plus, there are still several months until the first game of the 2022 season. This will give Wentz time to grow into Washington’s offense.
With the Colts in 2021, Wentz threw for 3,563 yards for 27 touchdowns while throwing 7 interceptions. However, his inconsistent play and costly turnovers led the Colts to move on from Wentz. The Commanders will hope that he can patch some of those issues from last year. If he can, Washington may be able to improve from their 7-10 record in 2021.
