Carson Schwesinger 2025 NFL Draft Profile

UCLA is putting out two intriguing defenders for the 2025 NFL Draft. I just did the profile on Oluwafemi Oladejo. Now it’s time to discuss linebacker Carson Schwesinger. Before we jump into the profile here, you should be warned that party pooper Trey is coming out for this one.

Schwesinger, 22, was a zero star recruit coming out of high school. The redshirt junior spent all four years with the Bruins. The timeline here isn’t really complex. Year one, he was a walk-on. In years two and three, he was a special teamer and earned a scholarship. This past year is when things changed.

The UCLA linebacker opened the 2024 season as a backup. Oladejo was moved from linebacker to edge rusher opening up the starting spot for Schwesinger. He parlayed that opportunity into First-team Associated Press All-American, First-team All-Big Ten Conference, 136 tackles, 8.5 TFLs with 4 sacks, 2 INTs, 3 PBUs, and a forced fumble.

One year wonders should be handled on a case-by-case basis. In this case, it’s hard not to be skeptical. We’re talking about a guy who didn’t open the season as a starter during the same season he went insane in. The guy can clearly run, but beyond that, I’m not sure how much of this is real. Is he really going to be the same type of piss missle at the NFL level after not showing it for 3.5 years?

No real Combine workout here either, which sucks because he’s someone that needed to prove this was more than sizzle. He also lacks thickness, checking in at 6-foot-2, 242. A 39.5 inch vert and 20 bench press reps are cool. He also skipped everything else, and probably for a good reason.

When I watched him, I saw a guy who struggled to navigate big offensive line bodies and the long speed wasn’t as good as the short area. It does, however, look like he can cover.

I have a round 4-6 grade on Carson Schwesinger. I like him as a later round flier, but can’t go higher than that. Blowing your load on this small of a sample size when UCLA was already a mess feels like a big mistake. His draft price right now in the simulators is far too rich for something I’m willing to consider based on the timeline.
