Carmelo Anthony Is Headed To Lala Land

Carmelo Anthony will be a Los Angeles Laker. Rob Pelinka’s overhaul of this roster continues as the former scoring champion will be playing at Staples Center this fall. Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Anthony sign a 1-year deal with the 2020 champions. Alongside Wayne Ellington, Kent Bazemore, and Trevor Ariza, Melo is the latest shooter to join the Lakers’ new Big Three of Lebron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook.

What a difference a decade makes in the NBA. In 2011, James and Anthony would have been fierce competitors in the Eastern Conference instead of teammates out West. The pair’s duels were primetime television and the duo will now be playing together on one of the most popular teams in sports. While James has maintained his excellent form, the same cannot be said for Anthony. His last All-Star game was in 2017 and he struggled to even find a team for a few years. In the midst of an injury crisis during the 2019-2020 season, the Portland Trail Blazers signed him to a non-guaranteed contract, and the rest is history. He flourished off the bench for Portland and even shot better than 40% from three last season.

Will It Be Enough?

The Lakers have brought in many new faces after some notable departures like Alex Caruso and Andre Drummond. Regardless of where they may finish next season, the Lakers will be the most talked-about team in the league, and many fans are likely hoping for a Nets-Lakers final next season because of the storylines that would accompany such a series. For now, however, all we can do is wait and see if Anthony and the Lakers can retake their throne atop the NBA world.
