Carl Nassib Has The Number One Selling Jersey Since Coming Out

Carl Nassib made headlines everywhere as he announced on Monday that he is gay. It took the internet by storm as Nassib became the first active gay NFL player. Nassib received overwhelming support from both fans and NFL players. Guys like J.J. Watt, Saquon Barkley, and even Raiders legend O.J. Simpson took to social media to congratulate the defensive end. Nassib struck a chord with NFL fans as it was reported that Nassib had the top-selling jersey since making his announcement.

Nassib made his announcement on Instagram on Monday and along with a video, he expressed how blessed he is and how much support he has gotten.

“I truly love my life and cannot understand why I have been blessed with so much, I feel especially thankful to have had so much support when many who came before — and many even now — do not. I stand on the shoulders of giants, incredible people who paved the way for me to have this opportunity. I do not know all the history behind our courageous LGBTQ community, but I am eager to learn and to help continue the fight for quality and acceptance.”

I got nothing but respect for Carl Nassib, and I admire how much courage it takes to make an announcement like this. Social media can be a very toxic and negative space, and to see the support that Nassib received was awesome. From NFL players past and present to fans, everyone stood with Nassib. For those like myself who did not know what the Trevor Project is, they aim at crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for members of the LGBTQ+ community.
