Can Trey Sanders Rebuild NFL Draft Stock With TCU?

Week 1 of the 2023-24 college football season kicks off today with the first real Saturday of the year. My eyes will be glued to the first game of the Deion Sanders era as Colorado takes on TCU. The Horned Frogs are coming off a season where they just made the National Championship game. However, the only thing on my mind with TCU this year is Trey Sanders.

Can Trey Sanders rebuild his NFL Draft stock with TCU? We’re about to find out. Remember how I keep saying how my rookie picks are cursed? I can’t help but take some blame here when it comes to the obstacles that Sanders has faced thus far in his collegiate career.

It’s pretty easy to summarize the Sanders story so far. The former IMG Academy product was a five-star guy who originally attended Alabama during the 2019 recruiting trail. Sanders was considered the second best running back in that class behind John Emery.

Sanders looked like the next phenom running back at Alabama. Then a horrific car crash hit and he hasn’t really been the same player since. That was also three years ago and if there is any hope that Sanders is going to regain his old form, the time is now to go prove it.

TCU is a great landing spot for Sanders and the backfield should be all his after Kendre Miller departed for the NFL. The reality is, Sanders should be better than Miller if he’s able to regain his old form. Sanders’ style can probably be best described as a Jordan Howard with more juice in the tank. I just hope that juice hasn’t been permanently zapped by the car wreck.

That question is about to be answered this year and I can’t wait to find out what happens. It’s hard to not root for this guy given what he’s been through. For those wondering, the 2024 NFL Draft is LOADED at the running back position. Sanders can technically stay in school for another year. However, if he wants to make a name for himself as an NFL Draft prospect again, it’s go time for the former Alabama recruit.
