Can Cooper Flagg Lead Duke To A National Title?

Jayson Tatum couldn’t do it.

Zion Williamson couldn’t do it.

By IT… I mean win a National title at Duke.

It’s something that hasn’t happened yet under the Jon Scheyer regime. However, the Blue Devils sure feel like they have their best chance to do just that under Scheyer. If we’ve learned anything during this college basketball season, it’s that the hype on Cooper Flagg was absolutely warranted. Flagg is a stone cold lock to be the number one pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, but can he lead the Blue Devils to a national championship first?

Speaking of March Madness… check out FanDuel’s odds on March Madness! It’s never too early to get in on the action and if Flagg keeps dominating the way he is, those Duke odds to win it all could reduce.

It’s not exactly a shock that Flagg has been dominating at this level. He did cook Bradley Beal as a 16-year-old, after all. I guess the only thing to really note here is that Flagg has improved and looks more and more dominant as the season has progressed.

The Newport, Maine native is averaging 20 points, eight rebounds, and 4.2 assists per night. That’s as a freshman while converting 48.4% of his shot attempts. It’s not even about the numbers. He’s easily the best player in college basketball by a wide margin. It’s not an accident that Duke is 19-2, and they haven’t lost a game since November. Since Flagg has turned the corner during his freshman year, the Blue Devils look pretty close to unbeatable. It’s not often they totally dog-walk rival North Carolina (beating them 87-70 in a game that was over five minutes in) like they did the other night.

It’s not just Flagg either. The rest of the supporting cast is damn good too. Kon Knueppel (who are VSM draft team is high on) and Khaman Maluach (good luck outrebounding this dude) are slam-dunk lottery picks. Tyrese Proctor has emerged as a three-point shooting sniper. Long story short; this is not a one-man solo act by Flagg.

March Madness is the most unpredictable sporting event that exists. It’s not always who you play. It’s also when you play them. Luck is absolutely involved. The Zion Duke team looked unstoppable too. Jayson Tatum’s Duke team lost to stinky South Carolina. Anything can happen when the calendar flips to March. With that said, betting on anyone other than Cooper Flagg to cut down the nets at the end of the season feels like a foolish proposition.
