Treylon Burks has essentially done nothing at the NFL level at the Titans basically traded AJ Brown for him a couple of years ago. I guess I’m the only person that’s not surprised (if you want a good laugh give this post a read).
While many are giving up on Burks who is coming off a season where he posted 16 receptions for 221 yards and zero touchdowns, one of his new teammates is a believer. Calvin Ridley is starting the Burks hype machine back up. Ridley has some crazy comps for the former Arkansas product.
“This dude is a freak. Like, seriously, he’s going to be a stud,” Ridley said Wednesday, according to Fox Sports’ Ben Arthur. “There’s no worries with him. I mean, what I see – he’s like Julio (Jones), A.J. Brown, he’s like (Terrell Owens).”
“A dude that big, that fast? I mean, he’s a stud,” Ridley added about the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Burks. “You don’t have to worry about him. He’s just got to learn, slow the game down. He’ll be all right.”
My draft profile on Burks is there in the embed. I had him as a third rounder coming out of college. Anybody that compares him to AJ Brown even back then was uneducated. Burks is big and can stretch the field but has zero idea how to run routes. Until that changes, he’s going to underperform. Something I anticipate coming with time. Maybe this is the year to hop on the Burks train. It might be a great buy low spot for dynasty owners.
I just would temper expectations a little. Can the guy catch a singular touchdown before we compare him to Terrell Owens? I don’t think that’s too much to ask for.
