If there is one trait I want to see in my quarterback, it’s confidence. I want my QB to have full confidence in himself, his skillset and his team to be able to perform to the best of their abilities, no matter what. C.J. Stroud gave a great statement in regard to himself and how he viewed his play over the last two years at Ohio State.
“For me, if you put on my film, I think I’ve been the best player in college football two years in a row,” Stroud said, via ESPN.com. “Honestly, I haven’t touched my potential yet.”
This is what I like to see. I love that he is putting himself out there, telling the media that he has yet to reach his full potential. His last game as a Buckeye revived his draft stock, and his confidence should do wonders as well, setting himself up for a massive day tomorrow at the NFL Combine. He also defended his ability as a runner as well, something he caught heat for during the season.
“If you turn on the film and really watch what I do and you really look at film game to game, I have used my athleticism,” Stroud said. “Not just in the Georgia game, where I did it a lot, but I’ve done it in every other game.
“I’ve had tough third-down runs. I’ve had tough fourth-down runs. But there were times where I didn’t run the ball or maybe I should have. That’s something I learned. That’s what football is all about. It’s about stepping back up to the plate and fixing those problems.”
C.J. Stroud put up great numbers during his time as the starter for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He would throw for 8,123 yards on 69.3% completion, 85 touchdowns to only 12 interceptions. His range of rankings depends on who you speak to. Some folks have him as QB2, others QB3. For me, he is QB2 behind Bryce Young, with Anthony Richardson nipping at his heels.
