Seattle took Byron Murphy II with the 16th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, he feels he should have gone higher and has a personal vendetta against Atlanta for passing on him. The Seahawks play the Falcons this week and the former Texas product wants to make Atlanta pay for passing on him.
“Oh yeah,” Murphy said. “I did hear that Atlanta was supposed to draft me. I heard rumors about that, but they passed up on me. That’s their fault. That’s a big loss for them. They will feel me Sunday.”
The Falcons instead drafted Michael Penix Jr. with the 8th pick in the draft. If you’re a frequent visitor of this site, you know where I stand on that decision and on Penix in general.
Also, it’s worth noting that the Falcons are still searching for answers to improve their front seven. They shipped a third round pick out via trade to add Matthew Judon from New England. Word on the street is they’re still looking for pass rushing help. Maybe Penix can help them in that department…
Murphy has looked good in the flashes he’s shown to this point. He’s being doubled-teamed 79.5% of his pass-rush snaps, Per TruMedia. The Falcons may want to think about adopting that approach in the game this week…
“I was getting double-teamed in college, so getting double-teamed here, it ain’t nothing new to me,” said Murphy, who played at Texas. “But if I’m getting double-teamed, I feel like I’m doing my job, so it ain’t all about the stats. … If I’m getting double-teamed, everybody else is eating. That’s all that matters to me.”
