Bussin With The Boys Leaves Barstool Sports For FanDuel Sponsorship

We knew Bussin with the Boys was leaving Barstool Sports. We just didn’t know where yet, but now we do.

According to Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports (It’s locked behind a paywall. Don’t bother clicking the link, I’ll share the necessary info below so you don’t have to pay for their nonsense) Will Compton and Taylor Lewan will act as independent but will be under the FanDuel sponsorship umbrella.

“There is more clarity on Bussin’ With the Boys’ exit from Barstool Sports,” Glasspiegel reported. “The podcast’s hosts Will Compton and Taylor Lewan—both ex-NFL players—announced earlier this week they were leaving the platform to be an independent show with an unspecified sponsor.

“Several sources told Front Office Sports that the big sponsor is FanDuel. A rep for the sportsbook declined to comment. By all accounts, the deal was quite lavish.”

The Bussin crew very much indicated that they wanted to stay with Barstool. Only problem was DraftKings is the platform that sponsors Barstool so staying with them was a no-go.

By the way, it seems fair to remind you that Dave Portnoy is crying poor despite getting a blank check from Penn to go away. By the way, it’s not like DraftKings could have just gotten more involved and presented something to where Bussin pod stayed.

I think the more shocking comment is the fact that Barstool wasn’t even within striking distance of keeping them. How can they get so much money from this Penn deal and not hang onto a successful show that’s making them money? It all stems from poor leadership and creating a product that bleeds money.

“We can start on the surface. What pulled us away from Barstool was we had a massive offer – an offer that, ultimately, we could not say no to,” said Compton, regarding the exit. “Ultimately, it was one sponsor that had a bigger offer than what Barstool was able to put together as a whole. … I wanted (Portnoy) to know we do want to come back and, if you can make this competitive, like, we will still be here. And, ultimately, he couldn’t, he just couldn’t do it. He couldn’t go up that high.

“… If you think about taking a hometown discount, you’re thinking, what, a 10 to 20%. If he can get, like, within that range then it’s probably doable. He couldn’t get, like, within 40%.”
