Buddy Hield Is Perfect For The 76ers

The 76ers got the best player traded at the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline. That’s according to Daryl Morey anyway. Philadelphia acquired Buddy Hield in a deal with the Pacers at the deadline. It’s hard not to be bullish on this trade for the 76ers.

Morey does have a point. In totality, the 76ers acquired Hield for one second round pick. That’s a damn bargain for a guy that shoots the ball as well as Hield. Yes, they gave up three two’s for Hield but got one back in each trade parting ways with Patrick Beverley and Jaden Springer.

Hield, 31, is shooting 39% from three this season. It’s a slight tick down from his career average. However, in four games with the 76ers, he’s at 45% and Joel Embiid isn’t even healthy right now.

Long term, the former Oklahoma product appears to be a perfect fit. The 76ers needed an artist from deep in the worst way. Philadelphia ranks 22nd in 3-point percentage and that number was worse before the Hield trade. When Embiid is actually on the floor, you know the double teams are coming. To have the ability to kick it out to Hield for an open shot is imperative. Something the 76ers simply didn’t have before. If Tobias Harris wasn’t hitting his shots, the 76ers were screwed on any given night. That can’t be ideal.

The Celtics Should Trade For Buddy Hield

The 76ers have a mountain of cap space heading into the offseason. A trio of Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Hield is a strong start. If Philly can build a team around those three, maybe they can finally make it out of the second round of the playoffs. Of course, this season may be lost with Embiid on the shelf. Long term, this fit makes a lot of sense.
