Bucks Fire Head Coach Adrian Griffin

Mike Buddenholtzer made it five years in Milwaukee. Adrian Griffin didn’t even make it to the All-Star break in season number one. The Bucks hired Griffin during the offseason and have already fired him at the end of January.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was the first to report the news.

There are really two ways too look at this. Firing a coach who is 30-13 in year one on the job feels really sketchy. To fire a rookie head coach with that record reeks of an organizational fail.

With that said, there are reasons why Milwaukee probably is justified to make this call.

A: The defense is terrible. This team plays zero defense. They rank 22nd in defensive rating (116.8). They were fourth (110.9) in that same category a season ago. Of course, Damian Lillard is a huge downgrade on the defensive side of the ball compared to Jrue Holiday, which can’t be ignore.

B: Giannis clearly didn’t like him. There have been moments like this all season. I’ll just throw this one in here because I remember it happening from the Celtics game.

C: Milwaukee hired a babysitter in the form of Trevor Gleeson. The babysitter was supposed to be Terry Stotts but he clearly left that spot once the Lillard trade went down. The Bucks’ brass clearly didn’t like the results after Gleeson joined the staff. Therefore, they decided to make the move.

Certainly a tricky one. A coaching change that NBA fans probably didn’t see coming this soon. Feel free to comment below. Were the Bucks right to fire Griffin so soon or will they regret making this move?
