Buccaneers Offseason Needs NFL 2022: Free Agency And Draft Preview

First off, I just want it to be on record that I hate Tom Brady. I rejoiced when he retired and then cried in despair when he came back from retirement. Bucs went from being a contender to irrelevant to contenders again. Even with an old-ass QB in Tom Brady. This changes everything for the Bucs. This will change the approach of how the team addresses the Buccaneers offseason needs.

Bucs Free Agency

As far as Free Agency goes, the Bucs, at the moment, don’t have a lot to work with as far as cap space. Yes, the cap is a myth, but currently, the Bucs have -$14 million in cap space. This makes it hard to see the ceiling of the free agents the Bucs can get without messing with the cap. Worse news, the Bucs are practically losing their defensive line and their RB room. The latter is a lot less important than the defensive line issue. Luckily, in free agency, the defensive line market is rich. Once the Bucs maneuver their cap space, they will be okay to sign some players. Some players will sign a low-end deal just to sign with Tom Brady. I’m sure that is what the Bucs are banking on at the moment.

Bucs Draft

In the draft, the Bucs currently have 27, 60, and 91. With their cap situation, I’d love for them to trade down and get more team-friendly deals. But with the old QB, the time to win is now. So, that might not be on the Bucs game plan. At 27, the Bucs almost have to go DL at this point. The dream is somehow someway to get a guy like Jordan Davis or Devonte Wyatt drops to them. A more realistic option might be Perrion Winfrey or DeMarvin Leal dropping to them. At DE, it’s a toss-up. The Bucs are looking for David Ojabo, George Karlaftis, or Travon Walker drop. A guy like Drake Jackson could be an option too.

In the 2nd round is where the Bucs can address the other thing that they are losing in Free Agency: RB. There are about 4 RBs they can get at this point: Kenneth Walker III, Isaiah Spiller, Breece Hall, and James Cook. Whichever of those tickles their fancy, they should absolutely get.

In the 3rd, the Bucs should choose the best player available, preferably on the defense. Maybe a guy like Quay Walker or something along those lines. The defense might be lost due to free agency, so they should focus on rebuilding that with some young talent with their current cap situation.

The Buccaneers will try to contend again for as long as Tom Brady is playing for Tampa Bay. That means they have to address the Buccaneers offseason needs effectively to give Brady his last couple shots to win a title. The direction of the Buccaneers might be lost after he leaves. There’s a lot of uncertainty right now, but one thing is for certain. If the Bucs have Tom Brady, they will have a chance.
