The Titans looked seemingly well even after losing Derrick Henry for the season. Until they got to playoffs and their offense looked horrible against the eventual AFC champion Bengals. I say offense because the defense did their part getting to Burrow and containing the Bengals offense to under 20 points. While not having Henry was a huge blow, the Titans just don’t have that much of an offense. Mostly because Tannehill is not good. Either way, the Titans are still a playoff team considering how weak the AFC south is. So now, the goal for the Titans is to win the division and actually contend for a Super Bowl. We’ll see how the team addresses the Titans offseason needs to get to that point.
The Titans cap situation is not great. Currently, they’re -$1.6 million in cap space. This isn’t horrible though. We know that cap is a myth and this number can be messed with to give Titans cap space. So, not all hope is lost just yet. However, the very thing that really helped the Titans will most likely be altered the most in the offseason: Defense. The Titans have 6, count ’em, SIX LBs on expiring contracts. Not to mention 3 more CBs on top of that. That right there will kill a defense. After maneuvering their cap number, the Titans have to find a way to get LBs. You just can’t lose 6 LBs and not address that. Also, the Titans just released Julio Jones, which means there is an obvious need in that aspect too. AJ Brown is a legit WR1, but the Titans desperately need a WR2. They can find one of those in Free Agency but they need to hurry. With the notion that they might lose 3 CBs, they can still find great help in that department with this free agency class. It is a very rich class for this position and the Titans have to take advantage.
The Titans are not in the best spot of the draft to get high-end talent. But, they are in a prime spot to trade down, which I recommend. remember this team does not have their 2nd-round pick. Trading down is almost a must. However, given the Titans’ current LB situation, they can’t trade down too far because they want to draft one of the following: Nakobe Dean, Devin Lloyd, or Christian Harris. Trading down and still getting one of these LBs would be tremendous. If they don’t trade down and pick one of these LBs, their next pick is 90, a whole 64 picks away. At 90, this WR class is so deep that it’s almost speaking to them to take a WR. Julio Jones is gone, opening the door for a rookie. Guys that could be here include Wan’Dale Robinson, Calvin Austin III., or Jalen Tolbert. These guys would be helpful and not as expensive as former Titan Julio Jones.
The Titans seem like they are close to contending for a Super Bowl, but I think it’s the opposite. I don’t think the Titans are good at all. Sure, they’ll win games and go to the playoffs, but they’re not winning a Super Bowl, not with Ryan Tannehill at least. Plus, they are probably losing a lot of the defense this offseason, which held this team together. I’m sorry Titans fans, it just doesn’t look good. Maybe I don’t know everything, but I know this team can’t win a Super Bowl.
