Life is pretty good right now for Bryce Young. The Alabama quarterback won the Heisman Trophy as a redshirt freshman. Now he’s getting paid unlike almost any other college athlete ever. Young will now be part of the Dr Pepper ‘Fansville’ commercials.
“It was a lot of fun,” Young said, via Kristi Dosh of Forbes. “I don’t know if I’m going to give up my football career anytime soon, but I’m proud of the way everything turned out and I’m really excited for everyone to see the commercials. I hope everyone has some fun with them.”
“Dr Pepper is one of the brands that I grew up with and I feel like they have such a strong love for the game of football, just like I do,” he said. “I have many memories growing up and watching the Dr Pepper halftime shows during big games. To be a part of such a great tradition was really special to me.”
The Crimson Tide quarterback is on top of the college football world. The only thing left for him to accomplish is going out and winning a National Title for the Tide this upcoming year. Bama should realistically be better in 2022. The only real departures the team suffered was John Metchie, Jameson Williams, and Evan Neal. Most of the team returns and Nick Saban doesn’t lose in back to back years. Fireworks are coming.
I currently have Young listed as my number one quarterback for the 2023 NFL Draft. That obviously made him a logical choice for Dr Pepper to target for their campaign. Plus he’s also a Heisman winner which means he’s an automatic add for the Nissan commercials too.
A year ago, Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei was part of the campaign prior to the 2021 season. Dr Pepper representation also spoke about Uiagalelei.
“D.J. was a great partner last year and we are appreciative of the opportunity to work with him in our first year with NIL partners,” John Alvarado of Dr. Pepper said, via Forbes. “Fansville is all about fandom, which means supporting your teams through thick and thin.”
Given the struggles of DJ and Heisman winning season for Young, it’s not surprising they went in a new direction. It’s going to be hard for Young to even top the 4,872 yards, 47 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a 66.9% completion percentage numbers he put together a year ago. It’s also a totally new receiving core and starting running back. It’s going to be interesting to see what Bama puts together in 2022.
