The Bruins Need To Sign Elias Lindholm In Free Agency
Elias Lindholm will enter NHL free agency in a weird spot. He had a down year this year past season but prior to that was viewed as one of the better two way centers in the league. Guys like Lindholm don’t exactly grow on trees.
It’s exactly what the Bruins need too. No need to bury the lede. With the retirement of Patrice Bergeron and the departure of David Krejci, Boston needs a top line center or they’re never going to get back to Cup contention.
Elias Lindholm and the Bruins just appear to be such a perfect match on paper. Elliotte Friedman, on the latest episode of his 32 Thoughts podcast talked about exactly that.
“I’m expecting (the Bruins) to be in on (Lindholm) if he hits the market,” Friedman said. “Someone else said to me, throw Chandler Stephenson’s name in there. I think there are a lot of people expecting Stephenson to be on Boston’s radar.
“People definitely believe Boston is going to get a center. … Whether it’s Lindholm, Stephenson or somebody else we’re missing right now, there’s definitely a belief they’re gonna do something down the middle.”
The Bruins need a center and Lindholm is perfect for them. It would push Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha down in the lineup where they belong. Lindholm is a former Selke finalist and would give Boston a splash of what they had with Bergeron. Lindholm also wins faceoffs at a high rate (53.5% during his career).
Per CapFriendly, the Bruins have around $21 million in cap space to work with. Plenty of room to add a guy like Lindholm. Boston would be a great place for him to flourish too. Having Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak as your wingers makes life a lot easier.
The Bruins already have Hampus Lindholm. It only feels right if they have Elias too.
Make it happen, Boston.
