The Bruins & Golden Knights Can Solve Their Goalie Dilemma With This Creative Trade

Call me crazy here but I think I just came up with a unique plan that the Bruins and Golden Knights both need to be exploring for their own benefit. Both teams have goalie problems and more importantly cap space problems. If both teams just got on the phone, we just might be able to kill two birds with one stone.

The Bruins have not been shy about wanting to trade Linus Ullmark. Jeremy Swayman has earned a big payday that’s going to be coming down the pipeline. Moving Ullmark seems to be one way to at least open up cap space. With Swayman taking on a bigger role, they probably don’t need an expensive number two.

Likewise, the Golden Knights haven’t necessarily been shopping their goalies but they need to figure out a way to open up cap space somehow. Letting Jonathan Marchessault and or Chandler Stephenson walk would just be a brutal blow to the team. Moving out of Adin Hill’s contract might be the most logical way to keep both.

Kevin Weekes also recently reported this and he’s been a trusted reporter for years. He doesn’t just say this for no reason.

Just hear me out.

3 team trade. Figure out who the third party is that wants to be rewarded for eating dead money. Obviously a team that’s rebuilding… like the Flames. Let’s just use the Flames as the example but this could be any team that’s not trying to win right now.

Ullmark goes to Vegas at 50% retained.

Hill goes to Boston at 50% retained.

The third party gets something for eating the $4.95 million in total dead money.

It works perfectly. Vegas gets Ullmark for $2.5 million and saves a ton of much needed cap space. Ditto for Boston who gets Hill at $2.45 million. A much more reasonable price tag they would have never found on the open market for a back up goalie. Both teams are doing kart wheels to get those players on that price tag. Throw Calgary some picks / prospects from both sides and let’s call it a deal.

Am I crazy or does this idea make way too much sense to not happen? Let me know and pass it around if you like it. Let’s make this deal happen for the good of both teams.
