Can I interest you in a Bru McCoy scouting report? This one is going to be an interesting one to talk about so let’s not waste any more time. Here is your 2025 NFL Draft profile on the Tennessee wide receiver.

McCoy, 25 in June, came in with a decorated recruiting profile. He was a five star recruit dating back to the 2019 class and was the number one listed athlete in the country. McCoy chose the path of wide receiver. He actually measured in much shorter at the Combine than his listed height in college. For a guy who was supposed to be 6-foot-5, he’s really a smidge over 6-foot-2. One of many reasons why the Combine is necessary.

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 4, Week 8

The off-field story of McCoy is far more fascinating than the on-field one. Mostly because he was a transfer queen and changed schools more than he actually impacted things on the field. I’ll try to run though it as fast as I can.

Played HS at the notorious Mater Dei High School in California. Enrolls at USC, transfers to Texas, comes back to USC after the Trojans hire Kliff Kingsbury. Doesn’t do anything of note in 2020. Got hit with domestic violence in 2021 and entered the portal. Played his final three years at Tennessee but it’s more like 2.5 since he fractured/dislocated his right ankle in 2023. Tennessee did name him a team captain if you care about those sorts of things, which I guess is notable since his production isn’t anything special.

Doesn’t do much as a freshman at USC. Misses all of 2021 as I said earlier. 2022 was his best year notching 52 receptions for 667 yards and four scores. Had that gruesome injury the next year and never quite looked right after.

By the way, didn’t compete at the Combine and quit on the Senior Bowl about five minutes in. Might be one of those cases where he wasn’t explosive before and now he’s really a slug. Never created great separation before and now he doesn’t do it at all. Always been tight hipped even before the injury and has that quicksand feel to his game.

McCoy sort of reminds me of Cedric Tillman if Tillman was a broken bum. The Tennessee wide receiver gets an undrafted grade from me and isn’t someone I’m interested in as a priority free agent either.
