I guess this week is going to be about the veteran running backs. Nick Chubb just signed with the Houston Texans. Now JK Dobbins has found a home too.
The former Ravens and Chargers RB is now signing with the Broncos. Denver will add Dobbins to a one year contract.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
Dobbins, 26, will sign for $5.25 million with Denver. The former Ohio State product had a really nice year during his stint with the Chargers. Dobbins posted a career-high 905 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns in 13 games. This pay day isn’t exactly a cheap number given the nature of the position.
The Chargers did place a tender on the back, granting them exclusive negotiating rights with Dobbins. TBD if they get a comp pick out of this, but it’s certainly possible he falls within the top 32 comp picks where one is given out. We’ll get more clarity on that in the coming months.
Dobbins’ tenure with the Chargers felt over the second they turned the card in for Omarion Hampton in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Plus, they also signed Najee Harris this offseason. I’m not sure they’re ready to give up on Kimani Vidal either. It became a numbers game at some point. Now they have to start getting concerned with playing against him because this offense in Denver isn’t exactly going to be easy to defend.
