Brock Nelson: Should The Minnesota Wild Trade For Him?

Brock Nelson being traded to the Minnesota Wild just feels so damn obvious. To start out this post, I’m just going to list off some fun facts for everyone to consider.

Bill Guerin is in charge of Team USA for the 4Nations tournament. I still have no idea why anybody is excited about that tournament, but that’s another story for another day. Still, Nelson was a surprising add to the team but it goes to show how much Guerin loves him.

Let’s also consider that Nelson is from Warroad, Minnesota. He played college hockey at the University of North Dakota. Nelson is from the area and likely grew up a Wild fan.

The Wild need a center. It’s probably their biggest need. Marco Rossi, Brock Nelson, and Joel Eriksson Ek. Now that’s a trio that might get you somewhere. Without adding one more impact center, it’s hard to consider Minnesota a contender.

Minnesota should have plenty of resources here. Don’t forget, the dead money from Suter and Parise come off the books this year. The Wild will have over $12 million in cap space during the upcoming offseason. Plenty enough to get Nelson signed long term.

Nelson, 33, will have plenty of suitors beyond just the Wild. I just have a hard time believing another team will come away with his services. It feels like a match made in heaven that’s going to happen.
