What can new Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll expect from Saquon Barkley? Thus far, Daboll seems to be pleased from what he’s seen up close and personal from Barkley. Daboll was complimentary of his starting running back today when he spoke to local reporters.
“He’s been good. He’s been able to do everything we’ve asked him to do. . . . The routes we’re asking him to run, his quickness, his ability to get in and out of breaks, his long speed. It’s all good,” Daboll said, via SNY.
Barkley, 25, lowkey has to be on a short leash with the Giants. The former Penn State product will play his final season on his rookie contract after being taken with the second pick in the draft. Of course, New York can always franchise tag Barkley if he has another good season. In 2022, Barkley will play under the 5th year option that will pay him roughly $7 million.
For those who have read the site in the past know, I’m not fond of Barkley. That’s dating back to his college days when everybody seemed to love him. Can we just be honest for a second? This is a huge prove it year for Barkley. He’s done virtually nothing except play like ass and get hurt the last two years. Barkley has to show out this year. Are we forgetting many dubbed this guy a generational prospect?
Of course, with any of this training camp chatter, you have to be mindful of what’s said. Daboll obviously isn’t going to talk down on his player. Earlier in the week, the Daniel Jones hype train was out of control. It’s that time of year.
