We just did the Zack Kuntz profile. Now we get to talk about the Penn State tight end that actually ended up staying. Brenton Strange is one of many interesting tight end fliers in this year’s draft. What makes Strange stand out potentially above the rest? Let’s talk about it in this edition of the 2023 NFL Draft profile.
The production here won’t wow you. 362 yards last year. 225 the year before. 11 career touchdowns is what it is. The good news is it’s a tight end. We’ve seen them in all shapes and sizes before. Guys with no college production become hits like Jimmy Graham. Others who are stat monsters like Brandon Pettigrew do nothing. It’s a tough position to evaluate mostly because a lot of them are projects and most of them do nothing for two years. Welcome to the NFL.
6-foot-4, 253 is cool. Wish he was faster than 4.7 but it’s not a nail in the coffin. I think there is real H back potential. Is an effective blocker. We also have seen a track record of Strange having an ability to create real big plays down the field. Got one for you here in the stock report notes. Also is a former 4 star recruit and just looks / feels like a good athlete. I liked everything that I saw at the Combine too.
4th, 5th, 6th round; I’m all good here. More than happy to take the shot because that’s all these tight ends are. Shot! Shot! Shot! Which one will hit? Strange has a good chance to do so.
