Braxton Berrios Signing In Miami

Braxton Berrios is staying in the AFC East! The former All-Pro kick returner has signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins. After getting cut by the Jets, Berrios now has a chance to make them pay in the race for the 2023 playoffs. It is also a homecoming of sorts for the 27-year-old as he is a former University of Miami receiver. Adam Schefter had the news:

2022 didn’t quite build on his amazing 2021 season. The former sixth-round pick lit up the NFL with 852 yards on 28 kick returns the year before last. He had a league leading 30.4 yards per return and even took one to the house for 102 yards.

His numbers regressed pretty considerably in 2022, with only 1,076 all-purpose yards. Not ideal when you consider he put up 1,524 the year before. Regardless it seemed like he had a home in East Rutherford. The Jets picked him up in 2019 as a waiver claim from New England. The North Carolina native quickly became a fan favorite. Now, he is part of the enemy in Hard Rock Stadium.

Speed Kills

As if the Dolphins didn’t have enough roadrunners. Berrios joins the likes of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Cedrick Wilson on Mike McDaniels’ offense. It’s clear the Dolphins aren’t messing around this offseason. They also added superstar corner Jalen Ramsey to further bolster their secondary. Berrios’ arrival doesn’t have anywhere near the same magnitude. But you just feel like it has the chance to burn the Jets. He also joins Mike White as the second former Jet to jump ship to Southern Florida.

The AFC East is going to be a bloodbath. The Jets are 99% to getting Aaron Rodgers. The Dolphins are loading up this offseason. You can never count out Bill Belichick and the Patriots. And, of course, Josh Allen and the Bills are the reigning division champs. Smaller inter-divisional moves like this could make the difference once November and December come around.
