Brandon Aiyuk Lives In Looney Tunes Land, The 49ers Should Trade Him

Is anybody else sick and tired of Brandon Aiyuk? I’m not sure what it is about these receivers but they continue to lose their mind after achieving marginal success. The former Arizona State product has lost his mind and currently lives in Looney Tunes land. If the 49ers were smart, they would have traded him already.

Aiyuk, 26, had a breakout season last year where he averaged 17.9 yards per catch a season ago. Of course, a lot of that has to do with the fact that he’s the third option in the offense behind Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel. You could argue 4th in terms of importance given how much George Kittle opens up the offense with his ability to block. That’s not even mentioning the fact that Kyle Shanahan is the head coach. One of the few coaches that actually understands formational football.

Aiyuk is currently under contract and is set to play on the 5th year option. Instead of balling out and earning more money in free agency, he’s thrown a temper tantrum.

The lack of self-awareness here is remarkable. There has never been a point in time where San Francisco has stated they don’t want him on the team. If that were the case he would be gone already. The 49ers want Aiyuk. They just don’t want him at the number he’s proposing. It’s called a negotiation. Something Aiyuk has gotten butt hurt about for literally no reason.

Before we proceed any further, let’s talk about that 2020 NFL Draft class. Justin Jefferson has been paid. He’s basically the only one. CeeDee Lamb is waiting for his deal. Tee Higgins and Michael Pittman are also better players. None of which has caused a scene more than Aiyuk.

Now you may ask, what kind of contract is Aiyuk looking for? Maybe his request is reasonable?

Nope…

Sources tell Mike Giardi of the Boston Sports Journal that Aiyuk is shooting for guarantees in the mid-to upper-$80 million range. For comparison’s sake, Jefferson got $88.743 million in guaranteed money. Amon-Ra St. Brown is the next highest at $77 million after signing his deal. Aiyuk is essentially asking to be paid like Jefferson and even surpass him.

At some point, the dude is a total lunatic and it’s time to move on.

The NFL is producing a ton of wide receiver talent year after year. Why would you ever consider giving Aiyuk a record breaking contract when he’s one of the least important people on his own team? At some point, this nonsense needs to stop. Figure out a trade before it’s too late.
