Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos Transfers To Florida State

News broke just three days ago that Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos was hitting the transfer portal. He immediately became a name to watch because of his athletic playstyle and his ability to step up his play and that of the guys around him in big games. Well, he was in the portal long enough for a cup of coffee, as On3.com broke the news as to where he would be transferring to this winter.

It’s being reported that Thomas Castellanos is on the move to Florida State. After one year at UCF with limited action, he moved on to Boston College, where he played fine in his two seasons as a starter, throwing for 3,614 yards, a 33/19 TD/INT ratio on just 59.4% completion percentage. What makes Castellanos an intriguing prospect is his duel-threat quarterback style. In his two seasons with BC, he rushed for 1,307 yards (albeit 1,113 yards came two seasons ago). It was not in the game script to run as much this season, but Florida State would be wise to unleash that big play running ability that Castellanos possesses.

It’s safe to say that quarterback is a massive need for the Seminoles, as DJ Uiagalelei was a major disappointment and Luke Kromenhoek has hit the transfer portal himself. It feels like this is a situation where Mike Norvell might be coaching for his job in 2025, whether that be a mistake or not, and he is swinging for the fences to change the offensive playstyle of his team. Should he fully unleash the 5’9, 196 lb quarterback to play with the freedom we saw in 2023, maybe this Seminoles team can vastly improve off the abysmal 2-10 record from this prior season.
