Blake Snell is one of the notable high-priced arms on the free agent market. The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner has a preference on where he wants to play next. The Seattle native REALLY wants to come home and play for the Mariners.
Chris Cotillo of Mass Live posted on social media that Snell wants to pitch for the Mariners. Seattle Times reporter Ryan Divish also made a recent radio appearance where he said the Mariners “are gonna sign Blake Snell because he really wants to come home, and then they’ll trade one of the young pitchers for a bat.”.
Woah! Robbie Ray probably doesn’t have a market after he’s coming off of TJ Surgery. However, does that mean one of Luis Castillo, George Kirby, or Logan Gilbert is available? Seattle appears to be willing to part with an arm if an MLB-caliber bat comes back in return. Also, something that I recently mentioned in an offseason guide video I did not too long ago.
During the middle of last season, Snell expressed interest in returning to San Diego. Given the fact that he’s a West Coast guy, that makes a lot of sense as well. However, if the Padres are going to hit the reset button, maybe Snell does move on. If so, Seattle appears to be a serious front-runner.
Snell, 30, certainly isn’t going to be cheap. Not after coming off a season where he posted a 2.25 ERA and won the Cy Young. If you’re looking for a comparable contract, maybe it will fall in line with what Aaron Nola just signed with the Phillies.
