Billy Eppler: What Was His Punishment For The Darin Ruf Trade?

I just need to know. What was the punishment that Billy Eppler got for the Darin Ruf disaster trade? A personal letter to Steve Cohen. (Photo by Alejandra Villa Loarca/Newsday RM via Getty Images)

Billy Eppler: What Was His Punishment For The Darin Ruf Trade?

Team Trey added a small yet notable victory to his collection the other day and it went unnoticed. The whole thing has really. The Mets officially released Darin Ruf after initially DFA’ing him prior to the season. Of course, anyone with a brain knew what I did at the time. The trade was egregious and Billy Eppler should still have nightmares about the way he acted at the 2022 MLB Trade Deadline.

The 2022 Mets season will go down as one of the greatest what-ifs in recent memory. Had Steve Cohen just hired someone who was more competent than the guy who couldn’t win a single playoff game after inheriting Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, what could have been? We’ll never know for sure but I’d say losing in the Wild Card round after blowing the third largest division lead in baseball history might have a direct correlation to Eppler’s behavior at the deadline. Who’s to say? It’s only Trey from behind the keyboard that does nothing but owns your franchise every time I open my mouth.

Here is what I want to know. Why does this clown get to keep his job? Better yet, what was his punishment for blowing it? Address the media and tell them that it didn’t work out?

Do you not have balls, Uncle Steve? I told you to trade deGrom years ago. Instead, your puppet let him walk out the door free of charge. Well, basically free of charge because your team that you poured idiotic money into will never get under the tax anytime soon. Did you at least make Eppler give himself a paper cut for pissing away your chance at a World Series ring? In fact, I could argue that hiring nobody and not doing a single thing may have been the better outcome given the success JD Davis had down the stretch.

Can we just be honest here? This is a safe space. Your team isn’t winning it as long as that guy is in charge. You may fool yourself for a while because your money covers up for a lot of sins. This dope wouldn’t understand baseball if he tried. Justin Verlander put on a Mets uniform and immediately became injured. I’ve seen this story my whole life and the guy you put in charge doesn’t have what it takes to get it done. Atlanta will continue to own you unless you pick up the phone and do the right thing.

I’m open for a chat but don’t take too long. When you really tank this thing in the toilet, I no longer want the job. Just know if Trey botched something like this, I would slap myself in the face as I did with the Tom Brady fantasy thing for *almost* being wrong. The good news is that doesn’t really happen too often. Give me the job and I’ll get you what you crave but it’s my way or the highway. Otherwise, continue to suffer the consequences. The choice is yours but I leave you with this. Imagine the economy in the city of New York if the Mets became a real dynasty and overtook the Yankees. The guy you have in charge is preventing you from that and people have been thrown in jail in this country for far less.

Side note: If Eppler had any real integrity, he would have at a minimum bought Uncle Stevie’s five course meal after the Mets were eliminated last year. It’s not about the money that Cohen has. It’s about doing the right thing and being accountable. I bet Uncle Steve didn’t even get a handmark card from Eppler pissing away a title. Just remember Uncle Steve. That’s who you sit next to during the games.

You know where to find me.
