Ben Hutton Feels Like The Odd Guy Out In Vegas

It turns out I may have been onto something with my theory. Then Kelly McCrimmon dropped more breadcrumbs during the Mitch Marner presser, if you were paying attention. Vegas still wants Rasmus Andersson, and Ben Hutton is probably the odd guy out in order to do it.

Yes, Vegas loves Hutton as a player, but something has to give. The VGK have nine defenseman under contract not including Pietrangelo or RFA Cormier – (Hanifin, Theodore, McNabb, Whitecloud, Korczak, Lauzon, Megna, Coghlan, and Hutton). Maybe Megna and Coghlan head to Henderson. It still leaves Hutton as the guy out of the lineup, and it could make more sense to send him to a place where he will actually be in the lineup.

“Vegas has been shopping defenceman Ben Hutton, who has a $975,000 cap hit.”

“The Golden Knights, with Alex Pietrangelo’s $8.8 million cap hit on LTIR, have just under $2 million in cap space and would need to move another player beyond Hutton to accommodate Andersson’s salary. The Knights also have restricted free agent forwards Alexander Holtz and Cole Schwindt to sign.”

Vegas will still need retention with any Rasmus Andersson trade, but Calgary has plenty of cap space. As long as Andersson sticks to his guns, a trade could be inevitable. A trade structure should look similar to what a deal looked like with Noah Hanifin. Hutton serving as the Miromanov, and then draft picks / other assets lumped on top. Kelly McCrimmon is too smart to budge on the asking price. He knows the player wants Vegas.
