NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 4, Week 10, Week 14, Conference Championships

Carter, 22, was a five star recruit during the 2021 cycle. That includes being ranked as the 18th overall player, number one linebacker, and second ranked player in Georgia. The senior linebacker spent all four years with the Tigers.

There are reasons to be concerned after the Combine. That performance was bad on a lot of levels. Mostly because the play speed was brutal and there was no 40. After watching the drills, he really might be dirt slow.

Checking in at 6-foot, 231, Carter has been the starter since his sophomore season. It feels like he’s kinda been the same player since that year. It was also his highest sack total notching 5.5. The next two years, he recorded 3.5 in 2023 and 24. This past year, Carter was voted First-team All-ACC after a career high 82 tackles.

Let’s also go over this fact. All of this stuff is in the stock notes and people complaining about these not being long enough can find all you need inside of there. Here is what is obvious, eye test-wise. Sammy Brown showed up as a freshman, and it’s plainly obvious he’s the superior talent. Carter doesn’t have that twitched up element in his game that brown does.

Honestly, it feels like he’s closer to what Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was from a year ago. A really good blitzer, not fast, and not instinctive. Trenton Simpson had more juice to his game, but Carter is probably a more complete football player. The positive is that 10 missed tackles isn’t a crazy number, and he actually has made some plays on the ball in the past in coverage.

I like Barrett Carter. I just don’t love him. I think he’s a round 3-5 guy. I like him a tick better than Trotter Jr but not an overwhelming amoutn more.
