Baker Mayfield Signs Three-Year Deal With Buccaneers
Baker Mayfield has seemingly found a long-term home with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The No. 1 overall is closing in on a three-year, $100 million deal to remain in Tampa Bay, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The deal with feature $50 million of guaranteed money.
Mayfield bounced around the NFL after parting ways with the Cleveland Browns. In 2022, Mayfield took snaps for the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams. In the offseason, he signed with Tampa Bay on a one-year deal. That move has already paid off Tampa Bay is committing to Mayfield for the next three seasons.
Tampa Bay found success with Mayfield under center during the 2023 season. The Buccaneers won the NFC South with a 9-8 record and defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs. Tampa Bay’s run ended in the Divisional Round where they fell to the Detroit Lions.
Mayfield finished 2023 with 4,044 passing yards with 28 touchdowns. Those numbers came with a 64.3 completion percentage and ten interceptions.
The Buccaneers have proactively worked to keep the foundational pieces of its roster intact. That began with signing tenured wide receiver Mike Evans to a two-year extension. Tampa Bay also placed the franchise tag on Antoine Winfield Jr. That leaves Devin White and Lavonte David as the team’s top remaining free agents.
For the remainder of the offseason, the Buccaneers will work to help flesh out the remainder of the roster. It is not impossible for them to add further talent, but it will be difficult based on the team’s current cap situation.
