Avalanche ‘hoping’ Gabriel Landeskog can return for postseason

Ever since the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup back in 2022, it has been an Avalanche of woes.

Last season, the defending Stanley Cup champions were bounced out of the first round by the Seattle Kraken. Now, the Avalanche will be without captain Gabriel Landeskog for close to the entirety of the year, and are hoping for him to return come playoff time.

Colorado Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland recently commented on the captain’s availability come playoff time.

“We’re hoping,” Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland recently said when asked about Landeskog possibly returning for the playoffs, per The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun. “There’s still so much that needs to be gleaned in this, so it’s hard to put a timeline on it.

“He’s about four months (into his recovery), and he’s doing incredibly well,” he said. “We miss so much about what he brings, not just in terms of the goals and assists and power play and penalty kill, but just his presence in the room, being one of our emotional-barometer guys.

“He’s going to miss the regular season, and then I wouldn’t bet against Gabriel Landeskog in anything. If there’s somebody that’s going to deal with what he’s dealing with, with the right attitude and determination, it’s him. He’s our Viking.”

Landeskog has been the workhorse for a veteran-filled Avs team. He posted over 550 points in just over 730 games in his 11-year career. Landeskog, who turns 31-years-old in November, is the heart and soul of the Avalanche. He brings leadership to young guns like Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon.

Will Landeskog make it back in time for the Avalanche’s postseason run if they return to the playoffs this year? Let us know in the comments below.
