ASU signs Bobby Hurley to Two-Year Extension

Arizona State men’s basketball has re-signed head coach Bobby Hurley to a two-year contract extension, ASU’s Athletic Director Ray Anderson announced Tuesday. The deal will keep him in Tempe until 2026.

Hurley, 51, led the Sun Devils to the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in the 2022-23 season. He’s been Arizona State’s head coach since 2015. In his eight seasons, ASU has won 20+ games four times. They’ve also made the NCAA Tournaments three times and won 141 total games.

“It’s an honor to continue my journey as the head basketball coach at Arizona State University,” Hurley stated. “I want to thank Dr. Crow and Ray Anderson for their commitment to our program and trust in my leadership. I’m looking forward to building off our success this season and taking the program to greater heights in the future.” Hurley said.

The players seem to revolve around Hurley. Devan Cambridge, who was solid for the Sun Devils down the stretch, said one of the factors of his returning with one year left of eligibility would be if Hurley is back on the sidelines.

The Sun Devils coach Hurley became the first coach to win multiple NCAA Tournament games at Arizona State since Bill Frieder. He accomplished that feat when the Maroon and Gold dismantled Nevada in their First Four game.

Hurley’s biggest career wins include upset wins over #2 Kansas in 2017, #3 UCLA in 2022, and then #1 Kansas again in 2018.

In 2023, for only the fourth time in Arizona State’s history, the Sun Devils reached the semifinals of the PAC-12 Tournament.

Many college hoops fans remember Bobby Hurley for his legendary performance at Duke in the 1992 NCAA Tournament. That was the tournament where he won the Most Outstanding Player at the Final Four.

Hurley’s first year as a head coach was with the Buffalo Bulls in 2013. There, he brought Buffalo to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014-15. The subsequent season he was hired to be Arizona State’s head coach.

Bobby Hurley is a good basketball coach. ASU is lucky to have him and looks to continue building up its program.
