Are Liverpool just in the right place at the right time?

Liverpool are going to win the league, but the more probing question would be how good is this team exactly? The talk has been as good a Premier League winning team ever, but is that a fair assessment? Is it better as a collective unit than the Leicester team that achieved the unthinkable in 2015-16, winning the Premier League? Is it better than the Manchester United class of ‘99 considering what they achieved that year?

Then you have to ask what is different this year to orhers? Is it all down to manager Jürgen Klopp? Don’t forget, it was only earlier this season a group of fans wanted Klopp gone after their 0-0 draw with Manchester United, questioning his tactics and substitutions. There’s even a twitter account dedicated to getting him out, albeit it hasn’t been active in a while. So what has changed to make this the so called greatest Premier League team ever?

This season could not be going any better for Liverpool. For one, no-one seems to want to challenge them. Manchester City are rueing the fact they didn’t replace Vincent Kompany when he left in the summer, especially since Laporte’s injury, Manchester United are in full on rebuild mode, if the board can ever figure their shit out, and Chelsea have been shown the inconsistencies you get with young players during their transfer ban. Add to that Arsenal’s horrific season and Tottenham being… well, Tottenham and you could say Liverpool have been in the right place at the right time.

This doesn’t demean what Liverpool are doing or have done in the previous 12 months, it’s nothing sort of amazing, but if they lost Van Dijk and Gomez, would they be as strong? The answer is a resounding no.

Don’t get me wrong, the Merseyside club still have to beat what’s put in front of them, but when everyone else is subpar or underperforming it certainly helps, but is this season really up there with the achievements of Leicester and Manchester United?

Liverpool are the new kings of England, and they’re not slowing down anytime soon

To Liverpool fans it will be, based on the wait they’ve had for a League title and the slips they’ve had along the way.
