There is no doubt about it: the Las Vegas Raiders are an absolute dumpster fire right now. However, I do think they are trending ever so slightly in the right direction after head coach Antonio Pierce recently fired their offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy.
In addition to Getsy, the Raiders also fired their offensive line coach, James Cregg, and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello. Some are saying that these moves are premature, as, after all, it is the staff’s first season together. On the other hand, the team is 2-7, so clearly, whatever they were doing was not working. These firings were announced shortly after the Raiders 41-24 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals yesterday.
That was the last we had heard of the situation until this morning. Per Adam Schefter, Pierce currently has no clue who will be calling the offensive plays for the team or who will be starting at quarterback.
This is the fourth time in five seasons that the Raiders have switched a coordinator or a head coach out in the middle of the season.
In my opinion, there is no saving this season for the Raiders. Their best bet is to tank and try to win that illustrious number one overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. They just have no direction offensively. They are in QB purgatory, with Gardner Minshew and Desmond Ridder both being mid-to-subpar players. Oh yeah, and the injured Aiden O’Connell is also mid.
The one thing to be hopeful about is the defense. Per ESPN, the Raiders rank as the 13th-best defense currently. Although that is only slightly above average, it is a whole lot better than their 29th-ranked offense.
Antonio Pierce needs to use the team’s upcoming week ten bye to figure out who will be calling the offensive plays and who is going to be his QB. Ridder came in for Minshew yesterday and looked alright, going 11-16 with one passing touchdown. He may be the Raider’s best bet to win, which should be extremely troubling to you Raider fans.
