Anthony Santander was snubbed from 2024 All-Star Game

Anthony Santander was snubbed from 2024 All-Star Game

Anthony Santander has been one of the most important players on the Baltimore Orioles. In a contract year, Santander is playing like an All-Star. The Orioles are sending Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Corbin Burnes and Jordan Westburg to Texas for the All-Star Game, and the fact that Anthony Santander is not with them is comedic.

Outside of replacing an All-Star who has opted out of participation for any reason. Santander will not be recognized as an All-Star, even though he deserves it. Santander this season has a line of .232/.298/.495 with 23 homers and 57 RBI. His 23 homers are tied with Jose Ramirez for fourth in MLB behind only Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, and Henderson — all All-Stars, by the way.

The month of June was probably the best month of his entire career, smashing 13 homers with 26 RBI and a .264/.314/.646 batting clip in 28 games, helping Baltimore overtake the New York Yankees in the AL East standings.

With all due respect to Kyle Tucker, he hasn’t played in a month while Santander has only missed five games this season. This is especially disheartening seeing that Santander has had a great season dating back to 2022. Still, he is without recognition to play amongst the very best the game has to offer in the All-Star Game.

Amongst the misfortune, Anthony Santander is one of the best bats on one of the best teams in the American League. I do not care about the batting average or his otherwise below-average defense. Santander can rake and has done so consistently for years now.

Hopefully, he decides to enter the homerun derby this year as a consolation. Despite not making it to the All-Star Game this year. A strong second half for Santander can prove very fruitful for the impending free agent when the winter time comes around. As for right now, he deserves to be an All-Star.
