Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury is finally an official fight. The news broke earlier this week, and we now know that the fight is set for August 14th in Saudi Arabia. This announcement comes just a month or so after Joshua and Fury both signed a two-fight deal.
This is huge news. In one of the biggest boxing fights since Mike Tyson was smashing people’s faces in, the fans win no matter the outcome. The fight is a unification belt to try to unify all four of the heavyweight championships.
The fight will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia was also home to Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz II. Many probably remember that Joshua dominated Ruiz to gain back his heavyweight belts. The fight is on Saturday, August 14th. Start time and TV rights are still up in the air, but I would expect one of the major boxing networks to take it.
Seems like boxing fans have been waiting for this fight for an eternity. Realistically, this fight started gaining traction after Tyson Fury knocked out Deontay Wilder to win the WBC belt in 2020. Once Anthony Joshua regained his belts, the fight was bound to happen eventually. You have Anthony Joshua, who is powerful and technical, against a 7-footer who moves like a lightweight. On one hand, Joshua seems to be more powerful and maybe a little more precise with his shots, but on the other hand, Fury seems to never get hit. We also know that whoever wins this fight will unify all four belts and become the first heavyweight to ever do so.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks for a preview of the whole card.
