Anthony Edwards has classic response to potential critics about shooting too many 3-pointers

Even though the Minnesota Timberwolves traded star forward Karl-Anthony Towns, one of the best shooting big men in the league, to the New York Knicks days before the start of training camp, the Timberwolves have not been shy to let it fly to begin the 2024-25 season.

Minnesota has attempted the third-most 3-pointers per 100 possessions with the second-highest 3-point rating, hoisting nearly half of its shot attempts from distance. A big part of that is Anthony Edwards, who’s off to the most efficient start of his career while revamping his shot diet.

Edwards was recently asked by reporters about what he had to say to potential critics who said he was shooting “too many 3s,” and his response was golden:

Through seven games, Edwards is averaging 27.3 points, which would be a career-high, in addition to 5.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists on 46.8 percent shooting, including 45.0 percent from 3-point range on a remarkable 11.4 triple tries per contest.

Edwards is taking 56.4 percent of his shots from 3-point range, topping his previous career-high 3-point rate of 48.4 percent, set in 2021-22. He leads the NBA in total 3-point attempts with 36; he’s also attempted at least six in all seven of his games with at least a dozen in five of them. Better yet, the 6-foot-4 budding star guard hasn’t had a game where he’s not converted at least three triples.

The 23-year-old is one of the most unintentionally funny players in the NBA today. He’s not afraid to say what’s on his mind, and he’s very blunt about–and there’s zero chance he would care about anyone’s response to it. It’s the beauty about Ant. While the Timberwolves’ offense has still been a middle-of-the-pack unit, I commend him for doing his part in trying to create space for an offense that was inefficient with poor spacing a year ago.
