Angelos Family Officially Sells The Orioles

The Red Sox are apparently not trying. Some are arguing the Fenway Sports Group owned by John Henry should just sell the team. The only difference is the Angelos family has been blasted for this for a substantially longer period of time. Maybe the Orioles are finally going to have so better days ahead.

The Angelos family will sell the Orioles to billionaire David Rubenstein of the Carlyle Group private equity firm. Click here for the presser involving all the details on the sale. The O’s have officially sold for $1.725 billion.

“I am grateful to the Angelos family for the opportunity to join the team I have been a fan of my entire life,” Rubenstein said in a statement within today’s press release. “I look forward to working with all the Orioles owners, players and staff to build upon the incredible success the team has achieved in recent seasons. Our collective goal will be to bring a World Series Trophy back to the City of Baltimore. To the fans I say: we do it for you and can’t do it without you. Thank you for your support. Importantly, the impact of the Orioles extends far beyond the baseball diamond. The opportunity for the team to catalyze development around Camden Yards and in downtown Baltimore will provide generations of fans with lifelong memories and create additional economic opportunities for our community.”

The coolest part about this announcement is that Cal Ripken Jr. works his way into the ownership group. If you’re going to pick one former player on the O’s to get involved in this new project, it’s for sure the Iron Man.

Never forget the Orioles were scared to pay every single player who wasn’t named Chris Davis. It will never not be funny. Maybe things will be different now. If the new ownership group is smart, they get extensions done for the young studs they already have on the roster. You know who they are (Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Jackson Holliday, etc).
