Patrick Mahomes might be on the shelf this upcoming week with a high ankle sprain. Given that the Chiefs have already locked up the AFC West, it doesn’t seem wise to put Mahomes on the field with the playoffs around the corner. We should get a dose of Carson Wentz to close out the 2024-25 NFL regular season.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid seems to think highly of Wentz to the point where he basically said he should be starting for someone around the league.
“He’s started in the league and been successful,” Reid said. “He’s got a great feel for this offense. Very smart, big arm, I like the way he carries himself, I like everything about him. He should be starting in this league somewhere. He’s a heck of a player.”
Say whatever you want about Wentz, he’s clearly the most accomplished backup they have ever had behind Mahomes. He’s better than Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert. That much should be obvious even to Wentz’s biggest group of haters out there.
Why can’t Wentz become the next Sam Darnold or Baker Mayfield success story next year? Is that really impossible? It’s all about landing spots and coaching. We’re also finding out that Doug Pederson is a pretty awful head coach and Wentz was damn good in Philadelphia with him. The former North Dakota State product turns 32 at the end of the month and should still have some tread left on the tires.
