Andrew Tate outed himself on Dec. 28 due to a feud with climate activist Greta Thunberg. The exchange started when Tate, a former kickboxer and now social media influencer, mocked Thunberg on Twitter with a tweet of his luxurious Bugatti and a caption stating, “I have 33 cars” and telling her to “Please provide your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions.”
Greta responded asking for an “enlightenment,” to which Tate makes a complete mockery of himself tweeting a 1-on-1 style video directed at her. The video itself shows Tate asking for pizza boxes to someone off camera, to which he comments to “not recycle them” to further taunt the activist.
However, these pizza boxes belonged to an exclusively Romanian pizza chain, Jerry’s Pizza. These pizza boxes were used as proof for Romanian officials to determine Tate was actually in the country and arrested both him and his brother, Tristan.
The two were raided and detained while they were staying in a luxury villa on Thursday, Dec. 29. During this raid, two women who had been imprisoned at the villa were rescued by authorities.
Suspicions for the arrest include rape, sex-trafficking, and human trafficking. They were reported to have created a crime group specializing in recruiting, housing and exploiting women to create pornographic content at which they would sell on multiple social media platforms, according to CBS News.
These horrible actions are not surprising to the many people that have had to, unfortunately, witness Andrew Tate’s awful and condescending attitude. He has demonstrated a sexist and misogynistic ideology across social media, for instance notably blaming women for being raped. This incident caused him to be banned on Twitter in 2017 before being re-instated after Elon Musk purchased the social media site. There have yet to be any more details released about his arrest.
