Andrew Cogliano Announces Retirement, Joins Avs Front Office

Andrew Cogliano is calling it quits. The veteran NHL forward known for his blazing speed announced his retirement earlier today. However, he is not leaving the game entirely. After winning the Stanley Cup in 2022, he is remaining with the Colorado Avalanche in a front office role. Check out what NHL insider Elliotte Friedman had to say:

Check out those games played. Across five different teams, he just fell short of 1,300 career games played. Funny enough, he never left the Western Conference. When you add in another 131 playoff games, you cannot help but tip your cap to the Toronto native. Even as he reached 37 years old, Cogliano remained a productive bottom six forward for the Avs. He put up 19 points in 75 games for a very good team looking to win another Cup after their recent triumph.

Speed Racer

If you ever look up his highlights on Youtube, you will see that Cogliano was a speedster to the highest degree. I never had the chance to watch him regularly but he was one of those key supporting pieces a contender needs. He experienced a lot of heartbreak through the earlier portion of his career, particularly with the Anaheim Ducks. Remember, that’s when Bruce Boudreau was behind the bench and the pair have a great relationship. It was not long ago when he went to bat for him in the media when the Canucks were a clown show.

I personally remember him most from his days out there, though he did also play for the Dallas Stars when they were in the bubble. Even as his physical traits started to decline, Cogs remained a very smart skater with great hockey IQ. He knew where to be most of the time and was a great teammate according to many. After bouncing around, he made it to Colorado during the 2022 Trade Deadline and was one of the key acquisitions en route to climbing the mountain.

Andrew Cogliano has been through a lot in his over 1,400 NHL games of service. Thankfully, he will never be forgotten with his name on the Stanley Cup.
