Andrei Svechnikov Ruled Out Indefinitely With Likely ACL Tear

The Carolina Hurricanes season may have just ended today. The Max Pacioretty Achilles tear may not have mattered all things considered. This one sure as hell does. Dynamite power forward Andrei Svechnikov has been ruled out indefinitely and there is real fear that the Russian winger has torn his ACL.

RALEIGH, NC. – Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that forward Andrei Svechnikov will be out indefinitely after suffering a right knee injury on Saturday night against the Vegas Golden Knights in Raleigh.

“Andrei had an MRI on Monday afternoon, and had a consultation with our team doctors,” said Waddell. “In the interest of being thorough, we are continuing to gather information along with Andrei to make the best decision for his health. We will provide further information after a decision is made.”

Elliott Friedman of Sportsnet later added that it looks like Svechnikov tore his ACL. It’s not officially official yet but it sure looks like it’s trending this way.

This genuinely sucks and there is no other way to say it. How does Carolina possibly overcome this loss? Svechnikov, 22, has 55 points and is Carolina’s third leading scorer. He’s also one guy that hits and plays with an edge. Svechnikov was the second overall pick in 2018 for a reason.

I hate to even go here but I do find it odd this injury happened against the Golden Knights. I hate that it happened to Svechnikov but the signs are certainly not happy with the Hurricanes. Quiet deadline and all.

Update:

It’s official. It’s a torn ACL for Svechnikov.
