Andre Iguodala’s jersey to be retired by Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are a storied franchise that has had a lot of great players walk through their doors. Also, they are the most recent dynasty to rule the NBA. Now, the Warriors are retiring the jersey of one of the integral pieces to that dynasty. Andre Iguodala, who was beloved by fans in Golden State, No. 9 jersey will be retired according to a team press release. This will be the seventh jersey retired in GSW franchise history.

Andre Iguodala had a long career filled with a lot of success. He spent his first eight years in the league with Philadelphia Sixers. He was a one-time all-star, averaged about 15.3 points in Philadelphia, and was constantly in defensive Player of the Year voting. Iguodala then came to the Warriors and offered a veteran presence to their blooming young stars. Furthermore, he still was a strong defender in Golden State but his role switched to a sixth man.

Andre Iguodala was a four-time NBA Champion with the Warriors. Also, most notably he was named the Finals MVP in the 2015 NBA Finals. He averaged 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in these finals. He was also tasked with the impossible job of slowing down LeBron James in this series. The core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green along with Andre Iguodala and eventually Kevin Durant would then go on to win two more NBA Championships in the next four years.

Warriors Dynasty

The Golden State dynasty will be a major part of NBA History and Igudala was a huge part of those teams. Curry, Thompson, and Green will undoubtedly have their jerseys retired when they decide to leave the game. However, for now, Andre Iguodala will be the first player of those championship teams to have his jersey retired.
