Let’s talk shop on Amarius Mims. Let’s get right into the Georgia product’s 2024 NFL Draft Profile and not waste any unnecessary time!
How important is sample size to you? It feels like Mims has a pretty wide range of outcomes for that reason. The guy just isn’t on the field enough. When Mims has been on the field, we have seen more than enough flashes to the point where he should probably be considered the best tackle in the draft. It’s just the way the cookie crumbles for this one. Good luck trying to figure it out because some things just seem out of our control with this one.
We just don’t have a ton to work with here. It’s eight total starts. Mims played sparingly as a freshman serving in a backup role. He took the field during the College Football Playoff in 2022 and looked like a total monster. Then made six starts the following year but underwent the tight rope surgery to fix some ankle issues. If you’re a Mims believer, you turn on the 2022 College Football Playoff tapes. Your jaw will drop because it’s not hard to see how stupid talented this dude is.
Mims, a former five star recruit during the 2021 cycle, was the number one rated player in the entire state of Georgia that year. Does anybody get how insane you have to be to warrant that type of ranking? By the way, it’s justified. He’s a freak in every sense of the word. When you’re looking for aliens to go play football, Mims fits that mold.
The former Georgia right tackle checks in at 6-foot-8, 340, with over 36 inch arms and over 11 inch hands. The dude is a freak. I don’t know what else you want me to say. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise but we didn’t get to see Mims at the Combine. He pulled a hammy running the 40 and still clocked a 5.07 limping down the line. Imagine if it was a clean 40? Might have come in under 5, which is absurd for his size.
The pure ceiling is out of control. Just need to keep the guy on the field. If you really dig into it and watch, I’m not sure you can really find a rep where he loses in pass blocking situations. He’s still raw and still has room to grow, which is almost the scary part. Super strong and can make blocks down the field.
I love Amarius Mims. I’m just not sure how much more I can really dig into the player based on what we have to work with. The NFL Draft is all about projection and that’s exactly what you’re going to have to do with Mims. I have a first round grade on Mims and frankly, the team that gets him should probably feel lucky because he would go way higher if we have more consistent film on the player. I’m in here and while it may feel like a risk, the ceiling of Mims is gold jacket level good.
